What is Civil Living?

CIVIL LIVING Equals:

The essence of Civil Living is being mindful of others first. Having an active interest in the well-being of others. Civil Living is a positive and uplifting energy to practice throughout our neighborhoods, workplace and communities to impact overall the betterment of society.

Chris, Founder & CEO

“Almost daily each of us can reflect on an intentional act of rudeness from another person rather in word or deed. Generally speaking rudeness lurks in everyday living via texts, phone communications, internet exchange and driving. As we go forth within a Civil Living mindset we show kindness and grace toward others in their troubles. We believe in every human being there is power to choose Civil Living in any environment. Each of us can promote intentional and good for the betterment of others throughout the neighborhood, workplace and community. We believe each of us CAN Make a Difference in the world in which we all share. Just think about it…If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you haven’t been in bed with a mosquito.”

The Big Question?

We all wonder from time to time:

Where is civil living in our classrooms, workplace, home or communities? Is it in decline? Does it even exist anymore? Why should it matter to any of us anyway? Could civil living improve the quality of our lives? How can we be more intentional in practicing civil living within our communities when engaging with others? How do we handle the uncivil when we are on the receiving end?

So what exactly is civil living? Is there even a difference between civil living, manners, respect, courtesy and social etiquette? Simply answered, yes there is a difference.

Upon signing up for our workshops, we will explore this and so much more!

How are Social Ethics related to Civil Living?

Social ethics are the everyday principles and behaviors that guide respectful, compassionate human interaction.

  • Being present and engaged in conversation without interrupting or judging.

  • Honoring personal space, emotional limits, and cultural differences.

  • Using words to uplift, not tear down—even in conflict.

  • Taking time to understand another’s point of view and offering support.

  • Disagreeing without disrespect; choosing connection over being “right.”

  • Helping others simply because it’s the kind thing to do.
